Anniversaries
  • IDG marks 15 years in Bulgaria with a special issue of Computerworld. A Bulgarian publishing group purchases IDG Bulgaria and will continue to publish Computerworld, PC World, Network World, Digital World, and CIO titles under license from IDG (February)
  • IDG Brazil celebrates its 30th year with a special issue of Computerworld (March)
  • IDG Hungary turns 15 (April)
  • PC World Komputer, Poland’s oldest and best-read computer magazine, marks its 20th anniversary (May)
  • Computerworld Denmark turns celebrates its 25th anniversary. (October)
  • IDC Nordic turns 25 (December)
  • Network World celebrates its 20th anniversary. (June)
Awards/Recognition
  • In less than a year, Spain’s GameProTv.com attacts nearly 200,000 unique visitors per month (February)
  • PC World’s Techlog wins Min’s Best of the Web Award for Best Blog.-IDG is number 8 out of 25 in Advertising Age’s annual listing of top media companies based on US magazine net revenue in 2005 (March)
  • IDG becomes the first IT media company to launch a keyword-based advertising auction platform across its network of US enterprise sites (May)
  • CIO, Computerworld, and InfoWorld are named to BtoB magazine’s annual Media Power 50 list, a ranking of the top business-to-business media (May)
  • According to the spring 2006 Intelliquest CIMS Business Influencer Study, CIO, Computerworld, Macworld, Network World, and PC World reach a total of 4.5 million (June)
  • Six IDG publications win 42 awards, including Computerworld and CSO as magazines of the year, from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (August)
  • IDG publications take home nine Folio awards for editorial and design excellence which is more than any IT media company. The honors, including four gold awards, go to InfoWorld, Computerworld, PC World, Macworld, and CIO magazine (October)
  • IDG lands at number 107 out of 394 companies on Forbes annual list of the largest private companies in the US (November)
  • Computerworld holds its 15th Storage Networking World which is the world’s largest event of its kind (November)
  • Computerworld publishes its 2000 issue (May)

  • IDG sells its Bio-IT World media and events properties to Cambridge Healthtech Institute (March)
  • SVP of Online, Colin Crawford, and InfoWorld’s Jon Udell are named in the 2006 Folio:40, a roundup of key influencers in the publishing industry. (April)
  • IDG Communications President Bob Carrigan is inducted into the Min’s (media industry newsletter) Hall of Fame (May)
  • IDG and Fairfax Business Media agree to a multi-country deal in which IDG UK acquires MIS magazine that becomes a CIO title. Fairfax will publish CIO Asia, Computerworld Malaysia, and in New Zealand, Computerworld, CIO, PC World, and NZ Reseller (August)
  • IDG Germany changes its name to IDG Communications Media to reflect its shift from publishing to multimedia products (November)
  • IDG China signs a 10 year agreement with a government agency to produce a new event, Consumer Electronics World Expo in April 2007 (November)
Launches
  • IDG Australia introduces iMode, a mobile content platform that allows users to check product reviews while they are in a store (January)
  • Network World launches the IT Roadmap Conference & Expo series (March)
  • IDG Germany produces a 30 minute news webcast during CeBIT, Computewoche-TV. After the trade show the webcast becomes a weekly program on developments in the IT industry (March)
  • IDG Germany’s Channel Group launches a print, online, and conference business to serve a growing number of resellers in the consumer electronics market (April)
  • Computerworld.com and pcworld.com introduce new web sites. IDG Entertainment unveils a redesign of its gamepro.com site (May, August)
  • The IDG News Service, a news and information source for IDG media worldwide, adds video reports to its service joining other IDG media in the US featuring audio and video material (May)
  • PC World Latin America introduces an updated version of the publication’s web site (June)
  • PC world debuts in India (June)
  • IDG Connect, with a database of more than six-million readers, web site visitors, and event attendees, becomes available to marketers looking to sell to buyers in various technology categories (July)
  • PC-Welt airs the first commercial created exclusively for the Internet in Germany (September)
  • Computerworld Norway debuts quarterly gadget titled CW Sparetime (September)
  • IDG World Expo China organizes the first non-US version of the DEMO conference (September)
  • The Security Standard conference debuts in Boston (September)
  • The SaaScon (software as a service) conference debuts in San Francisco (October)
  • InfoWorld debuts its IT Exec-Connect serves that allows IT professionals to communicate with their peers, product experts, and InfoWorld staff (November)
  • Macworld.com becomes one of the first sites to implement a new customizable search engine called Google Custom Search. (November)
Subsidiaries
  • IDC expands its presence in Africa with a subsidiary in Morocco which joins subsidiaries opened in late 2005 in Nigeria and Kenya (February)
  • IDC’s Energy Insights acquires the Market Intelligence Division of EPRI Solutions to become one of the largest US research and advisory firms serving the energy and utilities market (June)
