Martyn Williams
|
Martyn Williams is Tokyo Bureau Chief for IDG News Service and covers the vibrant IT and consumer electronics industry in Japan and South Korea in both text and video.
He came to Japan in 1995 from his native U.K. and has covered the nation's information technology industry for the duration of his stay. Since the late 1990s he has also covered the industry in neighboring South Korea. He joined the News Service in 1999. Prior to his stay in Japan he covered computing, the nascent Internet of the time and satellite television and communications for several media outlets in Europe.
At present he is following the restructuring of Sony, the gaming console market, environmental issues in the electronics sector and 3D television.
As a keen traveller, he has visited many Asian nations and lists as his most memorable trip a 2002 visit to the Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea (North Korea) where he reported on several IT-related issues in the country and the Arirang mass games. He speaks Japanese.
From 2007 to 2008 he served as president of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan and currently chairs its Professional Activities Committee.
