James Niccolai

James Niccolai is IDG News Service deputy news editor based in San Francisco. He oversees IDG's coverage from Silicon Valley and Asia and writes about data centers, high-end servers and general enterprise IT.
James was born in London and moved to the U.S. in 1994. He graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in journalism. He worked as a reporter at the Quincy Patriot Ledger south of Boston, where he covered crime, schools and local government.
He joined IDG News Service in 1998 and worked for seven years in the San Francisco bureau, writing about semiconductors and enterprise software. He relocated to IDG's Paris office in 2004 where he worked for four years before moving back to San Francisco in 2008.
James has traveled widely in Europe, the U.S. and Asia. In the 1980s he managed a summer camp in Connecticut for inner-city children from New York City. He has ridden a Greyhound bus around the U.S., hitchhiked to Inuvik in the Arctic Circle and hiked to Mount Everest base camp.
