Jay Alabaster

Jay Alabaster is a reporter and video journalist for the IDG News Service based in Tokyo. He covers the Japanese technology beat, including major manufacturers like Sony and Panasonic, consumer electronics and mobile, game companies including Nintendo, as well as odd robots and gadgets. He also covers major technology conferences including CES, CEATEC and Computex.

Jay previously worked at the Tokyo bureaus of the Associated Press, where he covered general news, and Dow Jones, where he covered Japan's major electronics companies. Before becoming a journalist, he worked as a software developer, mainly building websites and mobile apps.

He speaks and reads Japanese and has lived in the country for over 15 years. Jay is an avid soccer player who also enjoys good fiction, fireside chats and Mexican food.
