Marc Ferranti

Marc Ferranti is the executive news editor of the IDG News Service, managing the day-to-day operations of IDG's in-house IT news wire servicing 300 print publications and related websites. Marc assigns and edits stories to ensure that the News Service's global reporting team produces timely coverage of the major IT news stories of the day. He coordinates news coverage with editors at different IDG publications and writes a weekly column, Wall Street Beat, covering IT-related financial news. He can help news makers get in touch with appropriate IDG editors and reporters.

Marc's extensive international experience gives him a unique perspective on major trends, and he has written in depth on topics including corporate financial news, global outsourcing, and enterprise software.

Marc began working for IDG in 1993 as the IDG News Service's Paris bureau chief, moved back to the US in 1998 to become the news wire's New York bureau chief and was named executive news editor in 2000.

Marc began his career in general-assignment and business news in 1980 in Rome. He started working in IT news for Ziff-Davis' PC Week (now eWeek) in Boston in 1986, moving to New York in 1989 as a senior writer. Marc has also done freelance and broadcast work, appearing on CNN, National Public Radio, and contributing to the Wall Street Journal Europe and the International Herald Tribune, among other publications.

Marc holds dual US-Italian citizenship, is interested in literature and languages, and likes to travel with his wife and three children. He also is a musician, specializing in woodwinds and performing bossa nova, flamenco and rock on a regular basis.
