Data storage grows at record pace amid backup need

The market for computer disk storage systems grew a record 12.5 percent in the third quarter amid surging demand by businesses to secure a growing mountain of data, market researcher IDC reported. EMC Corp. kept its top standing in the $3.88 billion global market for external disk storage, with a 20.3 percent share compared with 21.3 percent a year earlier, IDC of Framingham, Massachusetts said late on Thursday.
