Mobilcast Service Brings Podcasts To Mobile Phones
Walking around silently with a Bluetooth headset turned on, Dave Disser often appears as if he's stuck in a one-sided conversation on his cellphone. In reality, he's listening to podcasters Kristopher and Betsy Smith comically rant about their married life. The 34-year-old San Diego native spends several hours a week listening to podcasts on his mobile phone. Podcast files normally are downloaded onto a computer or portable music player, but a software program called Mobilcast enables direct downloads to a phone handset, which is more convenient for enthusiasts like Mr. Disser. IDC analyst David Linsalata doesn't see much value in Mobilcast by itself. "It's a component of something bigger," he said, adding that music, not podcasting, will be the next big wave for cellphones.
