Life Science Insights; Drug safety needs outpacing technology solutions, study indicates

Pharmacovigilance risk management will be one of the fastest-growing application areas in the drug development arena in 2005, according to Life Science Insights (LSI). Drug manufacturers are increasingly looking to pharmacovigilance risk management technology as a tool for proactively addressing the drug safety issue in marketed drugs. LSI's study, "Adverse Event Reporting and Pharmacovigilance: Making Drug Safety Happen," reviews the landscape for technology solutions and the issues they address, including tools for pre- and post-marketing detection of safety signals. The complexity of available pharmacovigilance applications is discussed and vendor offerings and assessment of each vendor's capabilities are listed. A discussion of current and emerging regulatory requirements is included.
