Global PC shipments to grow 14.2% in 2004: IDC
Global shipments of personal computers for 2004 are expected to increase 14.2 percent from the previous year to 176.5 million units, reflecting growing corporate demand, market researcher International Data Corp. said Monday. The volume is higher than a 13.5 percent rise IDC forecast in June. The upward revision reflects commercial PC shipment growth of 17.2 percent in the April-June quarter, the highest since mid-1999, IDC said. Despite the projected increase in 2004, IDC lowered its growth estimate for 2005 to 10.5 percent from 10.7 percent. It said projections for growth in future years remain in single digits.
