Industry survey finds 36 percent of software sold in the world last year was pirated
More than a third of computer software sold in the world last year was counterfeit, with the highest rate of piracy in Latin America but the biggest losses to the industry in Europe, according to an industry-sponsored survey released Wednesday. The study, conducted by U.S.-based market research firm IDC, found a global piracy rate of 36 percent that cost the software industry US$29 billion.
