IDG Wins Three Neal Awards
BOSTON, MA - MARCH 15, 2001 - International Data Group (IDG), the world’s leading provider of IT media and information services today announced that it won top honors in three categories at the prestigious 2001 Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards ceremony held yesterday, at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. The American Business Media’s Neal Awards recognize and reward editorial excellence in independent business publications.
IDG publications PC World and Darwin received three awards in various categories at the 47th annual Neal Awards. PC World continued its dominance, winning awards for Best Regularly Featured Department or Column for "Consumer Watch" and Best Single Issue of a Magazine for the June 2000 issue, which featured an article about online privacy, titled "Privacy 2000: In Web We Trust?". Since 1995, the staff of PC World has earned a record of 12 Neal Awards - plus two Grand Neal Awards - more than any other personal computer publication.
IDG’s newest US publication Darwin, took home the award for Best Single Issue of a Magazine for the August/September Issue which featured an interview with Oscar winner and technology enthusiast Ben Affleck and an article on industry partnerships, titled "Evolving Markets: Lions and Tigers and Bears (and the FTC)". Darwin became the first magazine in ABM history to receive this prestigious award within months of its launch -- the Ben Affleck issue was only the second one ever published.

The Jesse H. Neal Editorial Achievement Awards were created by American Business Media in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in independent business publications. The Neal Awards are presented annually to those editors who have submitted entries exhibiting journalistic enterprise, extent of service to the field, and editorial craftsmanship. ABP received 1,170 Neal entries for this year’s competition. Twenty-three winners were selected from 69 finalists by a distinguished panel of judges, chaired by Marshall Loeb, columnist for "CBS Marketwatch," and former editor of the Columbia Journalism Review.
