Bio-IT World Names Keynote Speakers for Upcoming Life Sciences Conference + Expo; Ray Kurzweil, Kari Stefansson, M.D. and Allen Roses, M.D. Address Technology and Research Breakthroughs Impacting Human Health and Drug Discovery

BOSTON, MA – JANUARY 23, 2006 – Bio-IT World, Inc. the leading publisher of information to meet the needs of the biopharma community, today announced that it has named three world-class keynote speakers for its fifth annual conference. The Life Sciences Conference + Expo 2006 (formerly known as the Bio-IT World Conference + Expo) is taking place at the Sheraton Hotel Boston, April 3 through 5, 2006.

The industry luminaries keynoting the conference are Ray Kurzweil, leading inventor and CEO of Kurzweil Technologies; Kari Stefansson, M.D., founder/president/CEO of deCODE genetics; and Allen Roses, M.D., senior vice president of genetics research, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals.

Life Sciences Conference + Expo 2006 is the premier event for life science and information technology professionals in pharmaceutical, biotech and academic organizations. Ray Kurzweil, Monday, April 3, 2006, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Ray Kurzweil, founder of research and development giant Kurzweil Technologies, is considered one of the leading inventors of our time. He is the principal developer and inventor of numerous instruments including the first print-to-speech reading tool for the blind; the first CCD flat-bed scanner; the first text-to-speech synthesizer; and the first music synthesizer capable of recreating orchestral instruments. Kurzweil is the recipient of the MIT-Lemelson Prize; and he received the National Medal of Technology, the nation's highest honor in technology. In 2002 he was inducted into the National Inventor's Hall of Fame. He has received 12 honorary Doctorates; honors from three U.S. presidents; and has authored five books. His most recent book is entitled "The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology."

Kari Stefansson, MD, Tuesday, April 4, 2006, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Kari Stefansson, M.D., is the founder, president, CEO and director of deCODE genetics, a global leader in gene discovery, headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland. Stefansson previously was professor of Neurology, Neuropathology and Neuroscience at Harvard University; and director of Neuropathology at Beth Israel Hospital. He also has held faculty positions in Neurology, Neuropathology and Neurosciences at the University of Chicago. Since launching deCODE ten years ago, Stefansson has built a thriving biopharma company that has not only mapped dozens of major disease genes, but also honed new technologies and strategies to speed the identification of lead compounds, many of which are already entering clinical trials.

Allen Roses, M.D., Wednesday, April 5, 2006, 8:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

Allen Roses, M.D., is senior vice president of Genetics Research at GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals, where he has organized genetic strategies for susceptibility, gene discovery, pharmacogenetics strategy and implementation; and integration of genetics into medicine discovery and development. Roses was previously the Jefferson Pilot Professor of Neurobiology and Neurology at Duke University. Dr. Roses was one of the first clinical neurologists to apply molecular genetic strategies to neurological diseases. His laboratory at Duke University reported chromosomal location for more than 15 diseases, but is best known for identifying APOE4 as a major, widely confirmed susceptibility gene variant for common late-onset Alzheimer's disease. Roses is a leading authority on the application of pharmacogenomics to the development of personalized medicine. His team applies state-of-the-art genotyping technologies to manage patient populations in clinical trials.

In addition to the keynotes, this year's Life Science Conference + Expo offers conferences and workshops that feature four primary conference tracks, complemented by eight instructional workshops, in which bioscience executives, IT professionals and scientists learn how to utilize technology and informatics to more effectively create, store and analyze data, resulting in accelerated R&D processes and speedier times to market.
