Crain’s BtoB Conducts Social Media Marketing Awards Program, Sponsored by IDG

NEW YORK, NY & FRAMINGHAM, MA. – January 20, 2010 – BtoB, the leading media outlet for marketers and agencies, and IDG, the world’s largest technology media, event, and research company, have joined forces to recognize superior marketing across social media categories this spring. It is BtoB’s first such awards program and IDG is the lead Platinum sponsor.

Starting January 18 and ending on February 19, marketers and agencies can nominate programs for Best Use of Facebook, Best Use of Twitter, Best Use of LinkedIn, Best Use of Viral Video, Best Corporate Blog, Best Closed Community, and Best Social Media Integrated Campaign (across more than one social channel). There is a $50 fee per submission, with discounts available for multiple entries.

BtoB editors will select a winner and runner-up in each of the seven categories and announce them in their April 12 issue. In addition, they will choose their three favorite entries from both technology and non-technology companies as finalists for the People’s Choice awards. The winners in each industry will be chosen by online voters from April 12 to April 23. The winners of the People’s Choice awards will be announced at a breakfast in May in New York. All winners and runner-ups will also be recognized at the breakfast.

“The use of social networks has grown rapidly in the past year and marketers have begun to try different approaches to stimulate or join the conversations,” said Bob Felsenthal, publisher, Crain’s BtoB and Media Business. “The time was right to recognize innovative and effective ways to market a company, its products, and services across blogs and social networks.”

IDG noticed a surge in interest in the social Web among tech vendors and agencies last spring. “We are in the experimentation phase of social marketing so there’s a lot to learn from marketers, agencies, and media companies,” explained Matthew Yorke, president, IDG Strategic Marketing Services. “An awards program will accelerate the sharing of what we’ve all learned as we move to more sophisticated marketing.”

BtoB’s Marketing of and Reporting on Awards Program

BtoB and IDG have agreed to a comprehensive digital and print campaign to promote the 2010 BtoB Social Media Marketing Awards sponsored by IDG and report on the winners, starting with the January 18 issue of BtoB. BtoB will run a series of ads and promotions in e-mail newsletters, on its Web site, its Facebook and LinkedIn pages, its Twitter account, and in print issues this winter.

Winners and runners-up will be revealed in BtoB’s April 12 issue and online and the People’s Choice winners will be announced at the May event, online and in the June 14 issue.
