Customer Investments in Infrastructure Software Seen As Critical to Business Continuity, According to IDC Survey
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 18, 2003 – According to a recent IDC survey of 339 IT professionals, software infrastructure is considered very important in enabling business continuity within their organizations. In fact, the majority of respondents indicated that they valued their IT infrastructure assets just as much as their cash assets.
IDC reports that open standards-based infrastructure solutions capable of providing integration with existing systems will be a major focus for these IT professionals in the near term. Sally Hudson, research manager for IDC's Infrastructure Software Overview service, said “Interestingly, almost 60% of those surveyed indicated that they will be doing shorter tactical projects with smaller budget requirements both now and in the foreseeable future. While this partly due to today's conservative budgets, it is also being done with an eye toward integrating the present with the future needs of the organization."
Survey findings also reveal that IBM and Microsoft are perceived as leading the way among vendors committed to offering standards-based infrastructure solutions. Other than IBM and Microsoft, respondents named "don't know" as the third most popular choice, thereby indicating that individual vendor messages in this particular area are being lost.
