Executives From Novell and AMD Sign-On As Keynote Presenters At LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit
FRAMINGHAM, MA – NOVEMBER 7, 2006 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, has announced the addition of Debra Anderson, CIO at Novell, and Randy Allen, Corporate VP of the Server and Workstation Division at AMD, as keynote presenters for the first-ever LinuxWorld(R) OpenSolutions Summit(TM). Anderson and Allen join previously announced opening keynoter and "security guru" Bruce Schneier, creating an all-star lineup of keynote speakers for this event. LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit, scheduled to take place February 14-15, 2007, at the New York Marriott Marquis, is a unique conference providing attendees with the opportunity to learn from the Linux and open source deployment experiences of their peers through actual case studies.
On Thursday, February 15, 2007, Debra Anderson will kick-off day two of the conference with her keynote entitled, "Open Source Adoption – A Real Life Story." During this revealing presentation, Anderson will share her experiences as she led Novell's migration to OpenOffice and the SUSE Enterprise Linux Desktop. How do you make a fast transition for almost 5000 internal customers with the least amount of disruption? What impediments did Novell face and how were they solved? As first adopters of their own technology and other open source technology, Novell learned fascinating lessons that will help organizations understand the business opportunity of open source.
"CIO's don't want to be held captive to any one vendor and that's what's driving more and more organizations to move toward open source in the enterprise and data center. It gives them control over their environment, which makes great business sense," said Debra Anderson. "We make the transition easier because we are the ones kicking the tires by adopting our own open source products before bringing them to market. In addition, by being leading edge in the broader adoption of open source we can share the insights."
Closing out the conference on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at 3:45 p.m. is Randy Allen of AMD who will deliver a keynote entitled "Accelerating The Open Data Center." For many of us in the technology world, "Linux" represents the concept of "open collaboration." The open-source movement revolutionized IT by creating enduring models for technological innovation. Today, IT managers who are expected to leverage innovative solutions that deliver competitive advantage are also increasingly squeezed by pressure to reduce data center costs. Can the open model that Linux fostered address these competing pressures? Randy will discuss the implications of an open and collaborative approach to technology innovation, using industry examples to demonstrate how IT managers today can best benefit by open vendor approaches to developing innovative data center solutions.
