Grasping the Chance of China’s Western Development Program, Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park Will Bring More IT Opportunities, Says IDC
BEIJING, December 7, 2011 –Ten years ago, the China government put forward the Western Development Program (WDP). Construction of the IT and ecological infrastructures was the government's priority in this period, and this initiative has begun to take effect. In the next 10 years, the WDP will enter a new stage. This time, protecting and improving people's livelihood will be the core focus, and industrial development as the key initiative.
In order to seize the opportunities in the second cycle of the WDP, Sichuan province released its second 10-year development framework, with the following goals: develop a comprehensive economic center and foster modern manufacturing industry and other special industries. Hence, the Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park (SSHTIP) came into being.
The SSHTIP is located at the Chengdu Hi-tech Park, Sichuan, with an initial area of 10 square kilometers and total investment of RMB 20 billion. The construction period is from 2011 to 2019. The SSHTIP is being positioned as a low-carbon and high-tech innovation park, so it will be built into a cluster area of modern manufacturing and modern service industries.
With the construction of the park, ICT products and services will have a huge market opportunity specifically in the construction of smart grid, broadband Internet access, communication, smart transportation, smart buildings, and cloud computing datacenter, among others.
According to IDC's report Series Research of IT Opportunities in China Western Development Program—Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park, IDC forecasts that the IT investment from the park's administrative department will be RMB 240 million from 2012 to 2015.
IDC recommends that IT vendors actively participate in the SSHTIP's construction. And they can also settle in the park in order to reduce operating costs, and provide IT services and products to other enterprises in the park or in other western provinces in China to get more market opportunities.
