GridWorld Keynotes to Highlight Commercial Benefits of Grid Computing; Executives from eBay, Globus Alliance, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Oracle and others to discuss the vast opportunities made available by grid and distributed computing

FRAMINGHAM, MA – JULY 27, 2006 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for technology markets, today announced the full keynote lineup for GridWorld(TM), scheduled to take place September 11-14, 2006 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC. During their addresses, senior executives from Globus Alliance, eBay, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Oracle, HP, and more will discuss the commercial benefits of integrating grid computing technologies, products, and solutions into core IT operations.

The GridWorld Solutions Program kicks off on Tuesday, September 12, with an emphasis on the actual deployment of grid technology in the commercial sector. Paul Strong, Distinguished Research Scientist, eBay Inc., will deliver an opening keynote entitled "Grid Deployment at eBay." During his address, Strong will delve into enterprise grid architectures and technologies and discuss what is driving the long term vision and strategy for eBay's infrastructure within that context.

On Monday, September 11, the GGF 18 opening keynote at 9:00 a.m. is from Daniel Atkins, Director of the NSF Office of Cyber-infrastructure, entitled "Vision For 21st Century Discovery." Atkins' talk will feature a review of the comprehensive strategic planning process NSF has initiated with regard to its cyber-infrastructure and include highlights of his research on the social and technical architecture of distributed knowledge communities.

Monday evening, at 6:00 p.m., the GlobusWORLD(TM) opening will feature Ian Foster of Globus Alliance, Argonne National Laboratory and University of Chicago, who will deliver a keynote entitled, "Globus: State of the Union." Foster will review the year's accomplishments, discuss obstacles encountered and lessons learned, and propose goals that will help set the direction of the Globus community's work in the year ahead.

Rounding out the week's feature presentations are two panels designed to focus on the use and potential of grid in the enterprise. Patrick Thibodeau, Senior Editor at Computerworld, will moderate a keynote panel entitled "The Impact of Grid on Business Today" on Wednesday, September 13, from 9:00-9:45 a.m. Panelists include Ian Baird, Global General Manager, Grid and Utility Computing, EMC Corp.; Ken King, Vice President of Grid Computing, IBM; Chris Purpura, Vice President, Strategic Alliances and New Ventures, Platform Computing; and Stuart Wells, Executive Vice President, Utility Computing, Sun Microsystems, Inc. Beyond the hype, these top executives will discuss what is really happening with grid in major enterprises today, and how it is having an impact on the business itself. Topics to be explored include a range of perspectives including data, compute, and utility grids and where companies are really seeing the value.

The closing keynote on Wednesday, September 13, at 5:30 p.m. will be feature another top notch panel entitled "Internal Deployments of Grid," moderated by Earl C. Joseph II, IDC Program Vice President and Executive Director HPC User Forum. The panel will focus on how major grid technology vendors are taking advantage of the technology inside their own companies. Panelists include Elwood R. Coslett, Director, I.T. Strategic Capabilities, Intel; Mike Lowe, Director, Silicon Design Engineering, AMD; Bob Sauers, High Availability Solutions Architect, HP; and Bob Shimp, Vice President, Global Technology Business Unit, Oracle. These top executives all have hands-on responsibility for internal technology at their organizations. They will share their own grid implementation strategies, what's working, what's not and what's next.
