FRAMINGHAM, MA – APRIL 15, 2003 – IDG World Expo, the leading producer of world-class tradeshows, conferences and events for IT markets, today announced the keynote line-up for LinuxWorld Conference & Expo®/San Francisco 2003, taking place August 4-7, 2003 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. As the premier event exclusively focused on Linux and open source solutions, LinuxWorld will feature presentations by top executives from HP, IBM, Red Hat and Sun, as well as a special “State of Open Source” roundtable presented by leading industry analysts for the first time at LinuxWorld.

Open to all registered LinuxWorld Conference & Expo attendees, the keynote and roundtable presentations will paint a current picture of open source adoption, impart key lessons and describe in real terms how to run a business more efficiently with open source technology. As Linux and open source technologies become increasingly mainstream, CIOs, CTOs and even CEOs are assessing the benefits of introducing these technologies to their enterprises. The keynotes and analyst roundtable at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo are designed to help these C-level executives as well as IT directors and network managers navigate their way through open source strategies and implementations.

The LinuxWorld Conference & Expo opening keynote kicks off Tuesday, August 5 at 10:30 a.m. when Peter Blackmore, executive vice president of the Enterprise Systems Group at HP, takes the stage to discuss “Linux: The Next Stage.” In this presentation, Blackmore will discuss Linux's growing popularity as an enterprise operating system in industries ranging from life sciences to financial services and the vital role partners play in driving this growth.

"Linux is an important and growing operating system, gaining momentum with many customers around the world," said Blackmore. "Linux and the open source community have always been a priority at HP and we are pleased to deliver this keynote at LinuxWorld.”

Attendees will hear from Jonathan Schwartz, executive vice president, Software Group, Sun Microsystems, Inc. on Tuesday, August 5 at 1:30 p.m. A representative from Red Hat will also deliver a keynote address on Tuesday, August 5 at 4:30 p.m. More details on this presentation will be announced in the coming weeks.

On Wednesday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m., Irving Wladawsky-Berger, general manager, e-business on demand, IBM Corporation will address “The Next Step: e-business on Demand.” Wladawsky-Berger will describe how an on demand business responds to new challenges and opportunities, focuses on its core competency, and takes advantage of variable cost structures.

LinuxWorld Conference & Expo will present its first-ever State of Open Source Roundtable on Wednesday, August 6 at 1:30 p.m. Moderated by industry luminary Larry Augustin, a partner at Azure Capital Partners, this roundtable will feature the agreements and disagreements from the perspectives of respected analysts, including:

Pierre Fricke, executive vice president of Web Application Infrastructure and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Infrastructure, D.H. Brown Associates, Inc.

Daniel Kusnetzky, vice president, IDC's System Software research

Ted Schadler, principal analyst in software at Forrester Research

George Weiss, vice president and research director, Gartner

Continuing the tradition of game show style open source entertainment, the Golden Penguin Bowl promises to keep the crowd engaged as the Geeks and the Nerds match wits. Chris DiBona, vice president of marketing and co-founder, Damage Studios, Inc., will host the feature presentation on the expo floor at noon on Tuesday, August 5.

“Now that Linux and open source have become more mainstream to business strategy, it’s no longer a matter of ‘if,’ but ‘when’ and ‘how,’” said Rob Scheschareg, vice president of sales, marketing and product development, IDG World Expo. “LinuxWorld attendees can expect to meet like-minded professionals and leave with real-world insights and case studies which will provide them with the tools to become heroes to their companies.”
