IDC Awards Unisys G.R.A.D.E. Certification for the Year 2010
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – January 6, 2010 – IDC is pleased to announce that Unisys has been awarded the Green Recycling and Asset Disposal for the Enterprise (G.R.A.D.E.) certification. Unisys is the tenth vendor to win this unique distinction of excellence in managing enterprise-class IT hardware asset decommissioning. The certification is valid for the year 2010.
As a hardware manufacturer and a leading IT services firm, Unisys has long been involved in asset recovery to handle its own hardware decommissioning needs and those of its customers. While its offerings have focused on existing accounts, Unisys has built an infrastructure and capabilities that enable it to expand and reach out to new customers.
In assessing its IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) capabilities and resources, IDC found that:
* From a security and compliance standpoint, two critical elements to G.R.A.D.E. certification, Unisys provides certified, environmentally safe disposal of assets in compliance with Federal, State and Local government requirements, while providing certifiable data destruction and customer identification protection.
* Unisys' strengths include end-to-end process management with a dedicated point of contact. The company performs fast, flexible, nationwide pickup arrangements. It has experienced, dedicated service providers capable of complete solutions. Unisys provides transportation and reverse logistics capabilities, with a comprehensive suite of asset handling. Customers also benefit from multi-channel re-sale capabilities.
Given its capabilities, Unisys easily qualified for G.R.A.D.E. certification. The company's skills, resources, and methods of selecting partners are sound and IDC's due diligence on the company's front-end processes and backend operations found a strong platform for a solid ITAD business. As such, IDC is awarding Unisys G.R.A.D.E. Certification, valid for the year 2010. For complete details, please see the IDC report, 2009 G.R.A.D.E. Certification Assessment: Unisys (IDC #221321).
"In granting G.R.A.D.E. certification to Unisys, we have determined its ITAD practices meet IDC's standards related to the full suite of decommissioning services that are on par with the leading certified vendors," said David Daoud, research manager, Personal Computing, PC Tracker, and Green IT programs at IDC. "With a pending hardware refresh cycle in the enterprise, we see certified ITAD services as the way to go for companies to insure maximum protection and compliance, and we have determined that Unisys is well positioned to support its customers."
IDC's G.R.A.D.E. certification process is based on 34 IT Asset Disposal (ITAD)-related functions and tasks and uses a multi-dimensional weighting system that incorporates the broad offerings of remote applications, onsite services, logistics, in-plant processing, and post treatment. IDC G.R.A.D.E. certification is currently focused on the U.S. market with a view on compliance, sustainability, environmental stewardship, business continuity, and ROI.
