IDC Further Increases Its Investments in Latin America by Adding Resources in Peru
MIAMI, FL – FEBRUARY 24, 2003 – IDC today announced the appointment of Carolina Tejero as a research analyst covering the IT hardware markets in Peru. Based in Lima, Peru, Ms. Tejero will be tracking the markets of PCs, servers and desktop printers. Her responsibilities will include not only providing primary market sizing and forecast information on the Peruvian hardware markets, but also acting as a local resource for IDC's Peruvian clients to have consistent local dialogue and insights.
"IDC Latin America's biggest strength is its triangulated methodology, which employs analysts at the local, regional and global levels. Rather than beginning at the top with estimates provided by armchair analysts in the United States, we begin on the ground with labor-intensive, in-country work," said Eric A. Prothero, group vice president, IDC Latin America. "The Peruvian IT market has now reached a critical mass that warrants IDC having a local presence in the country. Tejero is our first employee in what we expect to be an important office over time," he added.
As other market research firms are shrinking their operations in Latin America or leaving the region altogether, IDC is continuing to expand. Over the past six months IDC has established a new subsidiary in Mexico, further expanded its Brazilian operations, and added a full-time resource to cover the Peru market. "IDC is fully committed to the Latin America region," commented Kirk Campbell, President and CEO of IDC. "We do not see the current economic downturn as a reason to change our global strategy. On the contrary, this is an excellent time to further expand our global presence."
Tejero will spend her first six months in training in IDC Brazil, traveling back and forth to Peru. On June 1st, Carolona will return to her home country and set up the local operation for IDC.
