IDC’s Applications And Information Access Research Group Releases Worldwide Software Revenue And Forecast For 33 Markets
FRAMINGHAM, Mass., June 11, 1998 — International Data Corporation (IDC) today announced the availability of six new research reports covering an array of markets in the worldwide packaged applications and information access tools marketplace. Each report extensively documents key trends and the five-year worldwide revenue outlook based on IDC's final estimates for 1997. Readers can view the worldwide revenue forecasts of each major market by four geographic regions and 12 operating environments. 1997 worldwide vendor market share information and growth rates are also provided.
"Continued reengineering and automation of internal processes, accelerated by the year 2000 deadline, contributed significantly to growth in 1997," said Clare Gillan, vice president, IDC's Applications and Information Access group. "The Internet will increasingly drive growth in applications throughout the forecast period as enterprises reengineer and automate extra-company processes, specifically supplying product, transacting business, and managing customer relationships. To take advantage of the Internet, many companies are investing heavily in these application areas for the first time. Further, the volumes of information being captured on web sites and the need for companies to be efficient as they grow their businesses is driving growth in the information access tools markets."
IDC's Applications and Information Access research group has completed vendor share and revenue forecasts for: games & entertainment, home education/edutainment, home productivity, customer support & help desk, sales force automation, materials management, maintenance management, human resources management/payroll, accounting, other office applications, project management, other cross-industry applications, word processing, desktop databases, wholesale distribution, retail, health care, manufacturing, product information management, mechanical CAD/CAE/CAM, EDA, insurance, banking/finance, other vertical applications, multidimensional analysis/OLAP, end-user query and reporting, executive information systems (EIS), statistical and technical data analysis, data mining, spatial data management, and spreadsheets.
These reports represent a synchronized effort of more than 50 of IDC's most experienced software analysts around the world. The market information is based on detailed revenue modeling of more than 1,000 vendors worldwide augmented by buyer side surveys and interviews, and thousands of vendor briefings through the year on positioning and strategy.
