IDG Italy and Trend Micro South Europe Join Forces Against Cybercrime
MILANO – MAY 28, 2001 – Trend Micro (Nasdaq:TMIC, TSE:4704) a global leader in network antivirus and Internet content security solutions, and IDG Communications Italia (www.idg.it), an Italian subsidiary of International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading IT media and information services company, today announced they have joined forces to combat computer viruses and cybercrime.
Through this agreement with IDG Italy, idg.it users can link directly to Trend Micro's HouseCall service, enabling an instant scan of their PC to check for suspicious files. If a virus is found, HouseCall will list the file name, and in most cases, the virus is easily eradicated. If it is not possible to clean up infected files, HouseCall gives the user the option to delete the infected file, reducing the risk of spreading viruses. This service is available free of charge and is continually updated against new virus threats for Windows 95, 98, and 2000 users. The service is available from the following sites: PC World (www.pcw.it), Computerworld (www.cwi.it) and Network World (www.nwi.it).
"This agreement signifies a great step forward in the fight against malicious code and cybercrime," said Claus Rønning, business unit manager of Trend Micro South Europe. "As a key information provider, IDG plays a major role in informing and educating Internet users. We are glad to be working with them with our best of breed technology, and to be offering their users the constantly updated protection provided by HouseCall."
"Idgworld.it was created to provide content and new services dedicated to bringing the world of computer science to a wide-ranging audience, from top business decision-makers to home users," said Mario Toffoletti, general manager of IDG Communications Italy. "To that end, the agreement with Trend Micro further illustrates IDG's role in providing technology information and tools for our readers in areas, such as security, that are most important to them. Hosting Trend Micro's HouseCall on idg.it also increases the number of services offered to our customers free of charge."
HouseCall brings the ease, accessibility, and effectiveness of a server-based antivirus application to home users over the Internet at no cost. Based on the same constantly updated scan engine technology that powers the award-winning InterScan, ScanMail and PC-cillin product families, HouseCall ensures that users always have access to the latest virus protection without time-consuming downloads, or subscriptions.
