IDG Names Dr. Morris Levitt President And CEO Of New Business Unit, Bio-IT World, Inc.

BOSTON, MA – DECEMBER 3, 2001 – International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading technology media company, today announced the appointment of Morris Levitt, Ph.D., as president and CEO of Bio-IT World Inc., a new business unit that has been established to support the rapidly emerging technology needs of the life sciences market. The appointment comes as IDC predicts that the biosciences and bioinformatics markets will be among the largest drivers for new development and revenue growth in the technology industry over the next 10 years. IDG's event company, IDG World Expo, has already announced plans for its March 2002 BioITWorld Conference and Expo in Boston and IDG's research arm, IDC, has announced a new research subscription service focused on this emerging market.

Dr. Levitt is responsible for establishing and managing the new business unit's organization and operations, and will oversee upcoming Bio-IT World product launches which will be announced over the next several months. Dr. Levitt has a rich background in biotech, healthcare and technology, and extensive experience in the publishing sector through his senior management positions with Advanstar Communications and PennWell. He brings to IDG a unique combination of skills – as an accomplished scientist and respected business executive – that will help establish this new IDG product line to serve the rapidly emerging bio-IT market.

"The intersection of life sciences and technology has enormous implications for the technology industry as well as our society at large. Computer technology is the foundation upon which science is achieving dramatic breakthroughs in such areas as genomic sequencing, proteomics, bioinformatics and drug development," said Kelly Conlin, IDG president and CEO. "The emergent nature of the market creates a critical need for a broad spectrum of information services. IDG's 37-year history of pioneering new markets will serve us well in aggressively delivering timely, relevant information to address the emerging life sciences industry."

"IDG has identified a unique opportunity to be the first technology publisher to focus on chronicling the emergence of the next IT frontier – the intersection of technology and life science," said Dr. Levitt. "I am looking forward to helping IDG build a successful business around Bio-IT World and supporting IDG's vision to help deliver a wide array of information services and products focused on the growing technology information needs of this market."

Dr. Levitt was most recently executive vice president and head of the Healthcare, Pharmaceutical and Science Division of Advanstar Communications, Inc., based in New York and New Jersey. Publications under his supervision included Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmaceutical Executive, Biopharm and Applied Clinical Trials. He was also responsible for the launch of Pharma Genomics.

From 1981 to1999, Dr. Levitt held a number of executive positions with PennWell Publishing Company, including leading the Advanced Technology Division and serving on the executive committee of the PennWell board of directors. He has a B.S. in physics from Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve University) and a Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University. Dr. Levitt also served as a director of the media audit organization BPA International from 1999-2001.
