IDG To Expand Leadership Position In The Electronic Entertainment Marketplace
SAN MATEO, CA (January 12, 1998)-International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading IT media, research and exposition company, announced today the creation of a new IDG business unit, IDG Games Media Group, that will combine two existing publications and their companion Web offerings into the only company providing information products in print, online, and in television across the whole spectrum of interactive entertainment, from console gaming, to multi-player gaming, to PC gaming.
IDG Games Media Group, including the publications, GamePro and PC Games, as well as the Web site, www.games.net, will enhance the global resources that IDG already offers the interactive entertainment market, including the world's largest event dedicated to the market, Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3), more gaming related publications worldwide than any other publisher with leading titles in eight countries, and the world's only global market research service, IDC/Link, the premier market research service covering consumer computing, entertainment, and media.
"The creation of this new business unit demonstrates our commitment to continued expansion of IDG's global market coverage of the important gaming market," said Kelly Conlin, IDG president. "Customers will certainly benefit from the focus that this IDG Games Media Group will bring to helping them reach the most influential buyers in this market."
To lead the IDG Games Media Group, IDG has appointed John F. Rousseau as President and CEO. He is the former President of GamePro Media Group and a 15-year publishing industry veteran. Rousseau will be responsible for the strategic direction and operation of IDG Games Media Group and its entire product line, including GamePro magazine, PC Games magazine, the NetPro supplement, GamePro Online, and PC Games Online. In addition, the group will continue its successful television programming and its annual Industry White Paper.
"As the gaming market continues to expand, IDG Games Media Group will be the only company that can provide the industry with the most competitive network of media products available today," says Rousseau. "GamePro's continued leadership position combined with PC Games' authoritative voice in the PC entertainment area and the new IDG Games.Net (www.games.net)- a five-channel online service dedicated to all things game-related-will provide the industry with an unsurpassed network of advertising opportunities."
