IDG Wins Top Honors for Editorial and Design Excellence At 11th Annual Folio: Show
BOSTON, MA — NOVEMBER 7, 2000 — International Data Group (IDG), the world's leading IT media and information services company, today announced that for the second consecutive year, CIO and Network World were honored at the 2000 Folio: Show with awards in editorial and design excellence.
Folio's Editorial Excellence awards honor overall quality and reward achievement in accomplishing a magazine's editorial mission. The awards comprised 23 consumer categories, 22 trade categories and 2 non-print categories. Publications were rated on how well they fulfilled their mission statements as well as the quality of their content. In the computing category, IDG's publication Network World was awarded top honors and PC World's online site, www.pcworld.com, was a finalist.
The Ozzie Awards honor excellence in 12 aspects of magazine design. IDG publications CIO and Network World won two gold awards: (CIO, Best Cover: Trade Above 100,000), (Network World, Best Use of Illustration: Trade Above 35,000). In its category, Network World was also a finalist for the awards: Best Use of Table of Contents and Best Feature Design. This reaffirms IDG's track record of success for both publications; last year, CIO was awarded two golds for Best Overall Design and Best Redesign and two silvers for Best Use of Illustration and Best Use of Typography. Network World was awarded a silver for Best Table of Contents. This year, the Ozzies received over 1700 entries submitted by trade, association, and consumer magazines. The entries were evaluated by a panel of 30 distinguished judges and were rated on how well they satisfied the criteria within each category. All award winners will be featured in the Folio: December issue.
"We are honored to be recognized by Folio:'s editorial and Ozzie design awards," said Kelly Conlin, IDG president and CEO. "These awards are highly regarded in the publishing industry; and IDG's recognition year after year is testament to the commitment to excellence and exceptional talent of our journalists and designers."
The awards were announced at the 2000 Celebration of Excellence Awards Gala held at the 11th annual Folio: Show in New York City last week. This year's conference and exhibition attracted more than 3,000 representatives of the publishing industry, and was sponsored by Folio:, American Business Press, Magazine Publishers of America and FIPP.
