IDG’s Network World Announces COMNET 2001 Sponsorship Lineup
SOUTHBOROUGH, MA – JANUARY 29, 2001 – Network World, the official Flagship Sponsor of ComNet/Washington D.C., today announced its official program for the 2001 technology conference and exhibition dedicated to enterprise networking and telecommunications.
VoIP Interoperability Lab: Network World has teamed up with Mier Communications, the industry's foremost independent test lab specializing in VoIP technology, to sponsor the first, public voice over IP interoperability lab featuring live interoperability testing using the ITU's H.323 specifications. This live testing will take place during the ComNet Conference and Expo, January 30 through February 1, 2001. The interoperability lab will be located in Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 and will be open during exposition hours. The testing scenarios as developed by Miercom engineers include: end node-to-end node performance using IP phones; end node or gateway-to-end node or gateway, where gateways will be built into IP PBX solutions; or gateway-to-gateway across H.323 domains. Representatives from each of the dozen participating companies will be on hand to answer questions about the testing and to provide information about their products. Participating companies testing their interoperability are: HearMe, Memotec, Cisco Systems Inc., Clarent Corp., Siemens, Quintum, OKI Corp., Sitara Networks, Nuera Communications Inc., and Avaya Inc. Network Security Showdown: Network World’s Editorial Director John Gallant will moderate a COMNET Supersession on Tuesday, January 30, at 1:15 PM in the Grand Ballroom of the Renaissance Hotel. In this no-holds-barred debate, Network World will bring together the top technical representatives from the major network security companies to field tough questions from a special panel of experts as well as each other. Past Network World special sessions have drawn standing-room-only crowds, and the same large audience is expected at this Showdown. Audio clips from the showdown will be available on Network World Fusion (www.nwfusion.com) after the event.
Participants include: Check Point Software’s Greg Smith, Bob Blakely from IBM/Tivoli Systems, Simon Perry of Computer Associates, Jeff Jones of Network Associates, and Rob Clyde from Symantec.
User Excellence Awards Ceremony: Network World’s 15th Annual 2000 User Excellence Awards program honors end-user organizations for their innovative and effective use of network technology to cut costs, improve communications and enhance productivity. Network World will have a special awards presentation recognizing this year’s winners at 9:15 AM on Wednesday, January 31, in the Grand Ballroom at the Renaissance Hotel.
"Best of the Tests" Pavilion: Network World is offering a first-ever hands-on opportunity to take a close look at what the Global Test Alliance members have selected as some of the best enterprise network products on the market. The lab will run continuously during exposition hours in Booth #3332 at the Washington D.C. Convention Center. The Network World Best of the Tests designation goes to the top enterprise network hardware and software products that have gone through a rigorous, hands-on testing by Network World’s Global Test Alliance members and independent product reviewers.
