IDG’s PCWorld Wins Three National ASBPE Awards For Editorial, Online and Design Excellence
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – JUNE 26, 2003 – At an award ceremony held last week in Washington, D.C., PC World was honored with three national awards by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Given annually to acknowledge all-around superior products, the Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards were presented to PCWorld.com, the Consumer Watch Column, and for Graphics Excellence, respectively. In addition, PC World was named one of the Top 10 Magazines of the Year (circ. 80,000+) out of 177 entries.
"These honors recognize PC World's tradition of serving the needs of our tech-savvy management audience," commented Harry McCracken, editor of PC World."Presented by our peers, the ASBPEs acknowledge that our print and online products meet the highest standards of excellence. Congratulations to the entire staff!"

The September and October 2002 Consumer Watch columns brought home a Silver for Editorial Excellence for a Regular Column, Contributed. The September column dealt with vendor consolidation and how it affects products and choices, and the October column exposed how the Web is fueling an explosion of identity theft. Both articles provided advice to help consumers avoid perils or maximize market situations.
Rounding out the awards was a Bronze for Graphics Excellence for Computer-Generated Front Cover. The June 2002 Ultimate How-To Guide issue cover combined a graphic"How-To"hook with a strong teaser-driven tips angle to create a clear special-issue emphasis. An elegant, active starburst background helped support the message.
PC World also won a total of 17 Western Regional ASBPE awards for regular departments, columns, illustrations and graphics, as well as a special section.
For more than 20 years, the American Society of Business Publication Editors' Awards of Excellence have honored the hard work and commitment to excellence by trade publication editors and graphic designers. This year the ASBPE received over 2,100 total entries in editorial, Web, and graphics categories.
