Inaugural IDC IT Forum & Expo Draws Influential Audience of Business Executives
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JUNE 19, 2006 – More than 1000 attendees and a roster of speakers from the front lines of business and technology have hailed IDC's flagship IT Forum & Expo a resounding success. The inaugural conference took place between June 14-16 in Boston and provided executives with insightful and real-world perspectives on how their peers are using technology to drive business transformation and innovation.
Core to the program were keynotes and case studies delivered by leaders of blue chip companies including Aetna, Austin Energy, BlueCross BlueShield, Boston Scientific Corp., FedEx Corp., Ford Motor Company, GE Real Estate, Merrill Lynch, Priceline.com, Staples, State Street Bank, Verizon Communications and Wm Wrigley, Jr. Company. In parallel, an invitation-only CIO Summit provided the opportunity for a smaller group of senior IT executives to delve deep into core strategic issues in a thought-provoking discussion facilitated by IDC's Senior Vice President of Research, Frank Gens.
Themes that permeated through the conference's sessions and hallways — and which map to the daily challenges facing today's IT and business leaders — were how to align IT with business objectives, how to maximize IT flexibility and responsiveness, information management and access, and practical applications of emerging technologies.
Run IT like a business was the imperative that Andres Carvallo, CIO of Austin Energy told participants during his track. "My goal was to communicate how CIOs need to work hand in hand with business counterparts to understand corporate objectives and goals, define and map all processes, then create measurable IT action plans to support them. At Austin Energy, it's been a three year transformative journey that has resulted in a leaner IT infrastructure that is totally in synch with — and driving — our business strategy. Sharing my experiences with an audience of my peers at the IDC IT Forum & Expo has been an honor."
The IDC IT Forum & Expo also delivered wisdom and motivation, delivered by its line-up of special keynote speakers that included author and management educator Jim Collins, Robert Reich, former U.S. Secretary of Labor, Jesus Ortas, Deputy Director of Digital Economy from Mexico's Ministry of Economics, John Gallant, President and Editorial Director of Network World, and John Gantz, IDC's Chief Research Officer.
Conference attendees also had the opportunity to meet with 40 technology vendors, rounding out their knowledge of the products and services available to help them build a dynamic IT environment.
"Now more than ever, the technology decisions a company makes play a powerful and highly strategic role in an organization's health, reputation and future — from privacy and regulatory compliance, to customer service, product development and business continuity planning, " said Kirk Campbell, CEO of IDC. "The IT Forum & Expo was conceived to help business and IT executives address these very decisions by learning from their peers and sharing best practices. No other conference has delivered the caliber of audience and content as the IT Forum & Expo."
Next year's IDC IT Forum & Expo will take place in June 2007 at Boston's new Westin Convention Center Seaport Hotel.
