InfoWorld Announces the 2016 Best of Open Source Software Awards

The Bossie Awards recognize 72 open source projects that are driving innovation in five technology categories application development, applications, big data, data center & cloud, and networking & security

Framingham, Mass. – September 21, 2016 –  InfoWorld—the technology media brand committed to keeping IT decision-makers ahead of the technology curve—announces the winners of its 2016 Best of Open Source Software Awards, better known as the Bossies. These awards showcase the most innovative open source tools available to software developers, IT organizations, and businesses today. The 72 winners in this year’s Bossie Awards are the tools and technologies that are reshaping the information technology landscape and transforming the ways businesses operate (Click to Tweet).

The 2016 awards recognize the top open source projects in five categories (application development, applications, big data, data center & cloud, and networking & security), encompassing the entire technology tool chain, from the tools developers use to build applications, to the automation frameworks for deploying and scaling them, to the distributed analytics platforms that draw business insights from their data. These winning projects are chosen not only by InfoWorld editors, but by InfoWorld contributors who have direct experience with open source technologies and currently work in IT and development-focused professions. Their first-hand use of these open source solutions makes them key qualifiers to assess and report reviews on the future of open source’s efficiency and opportunity.

“The rise of containers, microservices, distributed computing clusters, and large-scale analytics is turning the computing world upside down,” said Doug Dineley, executive editor of InfoWorld. “If you want to know what data centers and clouds will look like in the years to come, look at the winners of InfoWorld’s Best of Open Source Software Awards.”
