International Data Group (IDG) Announces IDG Communications Leadership Transition

Boston, MA—August 6, 2013—International Data Group (IDG) announced today that Bob Carrigan has decided to step down from his position as CEO of IDG Communications Worldwide. Carrigan has been invited to join the IDG Board of Directors and will continue as a member of the CEO Advisory Board at IDG Ventures USA. He will work through the remainder of IDG’s current fiscal year, which ends September 30, to facilitate the smooth transfer of leadership to the new management team.

Under Carrigan’s leadership, IDG has solidified its reputation as a digital media company and the worldwide leader in the tech event and media space. Carrigan led the transition of IDG's print brands to digital, significantly expanded IDG's event portfolio, and launched new brands and services, including IDG TechNetwork, IDG Connect and TechHive. Today, more than half the company’s revenue comes from online and digital sources.

“Bob has been instrumental in creating a culture of innovation that has enabled IDG business unit leaders to rapidly and profitably rethink their ways of delivering content and advertising to our customers,” said IDG Founder and Chairman Patrick J. McGovern. “I am delighted he has agreed to join our Board of Directors as a trusted company advisor so we can continue to benefit from his expertise.”

Michael Friedenberg, currently President and CEO of IDG Enterprise, has been named CEO of IDG Communications U.S. In addition to overseeing IDG’s high-tech B2B brands, Friedenberg will assume responsibility for IDG’s Consumer and SMB and IDG TechNetwork (U.S.) business units. Widely regarded as a leader who keenly understands the media and technology industry’s

evolving needs, Friedenberg will oversee IDG media brands including CIO, Computerworld, InfoWorld, Macworld, Network World, PCWorld and TechHive, as well as U.S.- based events, online advertising networks and exchanges.

“Michael has done an outstanding job as CEO of IDG Enterprise, making it the most profitable business unit within IDG Communications’ worldwide operations,” said McGovern. “I am delighted Michael is taking on these new responsibilities to help ensure the continued rapid growth and excellent business results of IDG Communications U.S. in the years ahead.”

David Hill, President and CEO of IDG International Publishing Services, has been named President of IDG Communications. He will oversee IDG’s corporate services, global sales and international media operations in 97 countries around the world. An authority on international media and the successful international franchising/licensing of media brands, Hill also serves as chairman of FIPP, the worldwide magazine media association.

“David is a 28-year veteran of IDG and has done an outstanding job in successfully growing IDG’s international presence,” said McGovern. “His role as FIPP chairman is recognition of his industry leadership in international publishing.”
