JavaWorld Debuts Code Masters Challenge

SOUTHBOROUGH, MA – MAY 1, 2000 –’s JavaWorld, the leading online resource for Java developers and an integral part of the Network, continues to challenge the masterful minds of technology in its monthly Code Masters programming competition. In this month’s contest, JavaWorld ( challenges readers to creatively demonstrate their problem-solving skills against those of their peers by creating an online chat program.

Every month, JavaWorld posts a new challenge for readers to submit solutions. A distinguished panel of Java experts judges entries based on a clearly defined set of criteria. Source codes of the winning solution and honorable mentions are posted online along with judges' comments and an interview with the winner.

Sponsored by IBM developerWorksTM, the contest has attracted many participants and has already awarded prizes to three talented individuals for their winning entries. Miguel Grinberg created a visual game of life based on triangular cells, Ken Gilmore developed a utility providing developers with a visual tool to create and run applications and produce documentation and Andrew Semprebon designed a game like AsteroidsTM for the KVM running on the Palm OS.
