Network Fault Platforms to Overwhelm Best-of-Breed Products by 2003, IDC Says
FRAMINGHAM, MA – AUGUST 15, 2001 – Network fault management platforms will prevail in a conflict with best-of-breed performance management, as both products offer similar expanded management capabilities from 2001 to 2005. According to IDC, the growing market opportunity is changing the competitive makeup of the industry and will push vendor revenues from $1.15 billion in 2001 to $1.49 billion in 2005.
"As the center of gravity for network operations, the network fault management platform anchors all other infrastructure management strategies," said Paul Bugala, research analyst for IDC’s Network and Service Management program. "From 2001-2005, leading vendors will fortify the centrality of the network fault management with systems, storage, security and service management capabilities. The result will be a conflict with specialized performance management applications – such as service level management – in 2003 from which the network fault management platform vendors will capture even greater market share."
According to IDC, recent industry events, such as Hewlett-Packard OpenView’s acquisition of Trinagy on August 9, 2001, are bearing out the accuracy of these predictions.
