New IDC MarketScape Provides First Definitive Assessment of Worldwide Integrated Talent Management Vendors
FRAMINGHAM, MA – JANUARY 7,2009 – IDC has released a new MarketScape report profiling and ranking the leading providers in the worldwide integrated talent management market. IDC MarketScape vendor analysis reports utilize a rigorous scoring methodology that produces a definitive assessment of each vendor’s current market capabilities and strategies for competing in the future. While studies have been done on individual talent functions, this represents the first comprehensive research to focus on the integrated talent suite.
IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Integrated Talent Management 2008 Vendor Analysis (IDC #215912), evaluates the offerings and prospects of 17 vendors' relative capabilities across 30 dimensions. These providers were evaluated using specific criteria that IDC identified as key factors contributing to vendor success in the worldwide integrated talent management market. The results were used to create a graphical representation of the market based on each service provider's current capabilities and future strategies. The vendors included in the analysis are Authoria, Cornerstone OnDemand, Halogen Software, Kenexa, Lawson, PeopleSoft and Oracle, Plateau, Saba, Salary.com, SAP, Silkroad Technologies, Softscape, Stepstone, SumTotal, SuccessFactors, Taleo, and Workscape.
This analysis revealed that current capabilities are quite close among the majority of vendors. There were several factors that emerged as most influential in predicting success including the breadth and depth of the suite, product innovation, consulting strength, and a strong internal focus on talent and using what one sells.
This IDC MarketScape methodology placed Success Factors and Lawson in the "Leaders" category with a number of vendors in hot pursuit as major players. Success Factors earned a high rating in part because they offer all but deep learning management as part of its suite — it partners for LMS but offers development as part of the core. Lawson demonstrates the strength that comes from not only integration of the talent functions but the ability to seamlessly interact with the HR system of record since they are one and the same.
"The footrace is on to offer a complete and deep end-to-end talent management offering," stated Lisa Rowan, program director, HR and Talent Management research at IDC. "Buyers are now able to find ample entry points, and the vendors are providing a solid foundation for the future."
