Retail Industry Expert Pete Abell Joins Manufacturing Insights; Company Expands RFID Research Coverage and Asia-Pacific Team
FRAMINGHAM, MA – APRIL 19, 2006 – IDC's Manufacturing Insights announces the appointment of Pete Abell to a newly created position, Program Director of Radio Frequency (RF) Sensor Network Research. A renowned industry expert, Abell joins veteran analyst, Michael Witty, to expand the company's research in the area of radio frequency identification (RFID), including RF sensor networks, actuators and legacy identification technology.
"When it comes to RFID, we now have a one-two punch that's hard to beat. Pete and Mike are pioneers in the RFID realm and their combined expertise covers everything from sensor networks and barcoding to collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment and consumer packaged goods (CPG)," says Bob Parker, vice president of research for Manufacturing Insights. "This duo will generate groundbreaking research to serve buyers of RF technology and business leaders in the Consumer Goods and Retail industries."
Abell brings more than 25 years of retailer, retailer-vendor and industry consulting experience to his position at Manufacturing Insights. Most recently, he served as co-founder and senior partner of The ePC Group, an advisory group focused on Global RFID Strategy and the physical layer of RFID across global supply chains. Prior to that, Abell managed AMR Research's Global Retail Industry Service and generated research focused on key retail industry issues and concentrated on RFID. He also held positions at Jewel Companies, Raytheon and MIT.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Manufacturing Insights team," says Abell. "It's exciting to work for a company that is committed to helping executives in the RFID market bridge the business and technology arenas."
Abell and Witty will present on how to create value through the use of RFID technology at Manufacturing Insights' RF-Enabled Sensor Networks Forum on June 8, 2006 in Boston, MA. For more information, visit: http://www.idc.com/rf-sensornetworks06 .
