Sun Microsystems to Keynote at CloudWorld Conference Next Month ; Lew Tucker, VP and CTO of Cloud Computing at Sun Microsystems, to Address the Evolution of Cloud Computing

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – July 8, 2009 – Sun Microsystems’ Lew Tucker will deliver the keynote address, “If Cloud Computing is the Answer, What is the Question?”, at the 2009 CloudWorld™ conference, IDG World Expo, producer of the event, announced today.

Lew Tucker is Vice President and CTO of Cloud Computing at Sun Microsystems, Inc. His keynote will address how cloud computing has become an umbrella term for utility computing, grid computing, and on-demand application delivery and, as such, covers a broad range of options for both IT consumers and providers. Mr. Tucker will discuss the problems that cloud computing solves and its benefits, as well as explore various aspects of the technology and how different cloud computing approaches can address different needs and solve different problems.

Mr. Tucker’s focus today is on the evolution of computing as it moves into the cloud, but his contributions span several waves of technology innovation over the last 20 years. Prior to re-joining Sun, he was a vice president at Salesforce.com where he created AppExchange, advancing the company's strategy to become the leading SaaS platform for business applications. He went on to become CTO at Radar Networks, an innovative, semantic-Web based Internet service for tracking interests. During his previous tenure at Sun, Mr. Tucker was an early member of the JavaSoft executive team driving developer adoption of the Java platform, and later became vice president, Internet Services, with overall responsibility for Sun's Internet sites and services.

“Sun Microsystems has been a key player in the transformation of the data center and rapid evolution of cloud computing,” said Jeffrey M. Kaplan, managing director of THINKstrategies, Inc. and chairman of CloudWorld. “We are very pleased to have Lew provide his perspective regarding the historic changes that are underway, along with a wide array of other speakers who will provide valuable insight about how to leverage these changes to achieve their business objectives.”

CloudWorld is co-locating with OpenSource World™ (formerly LinuxWorld®) and Next Generation Data Center™ (NGDC™) and is scheduled to take place August 12-13, 2009, at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco. The three events are co-located to give attendees the most comprehensive view into today’s rapidly evolving and tightly related enterprise technologies, which are dramatically increasing data center efficiency and reducing operating costs.
